When are you planning on coming to CO? Flying in or driving?

Try Estes Park, Winter Park, Grand Lake.

Also Durango and Pagosa Springs.

If you do a search on Vacation Rentals by Owner (vrbo.com) for Colorado cabins, you have quite a selection, though most of them aren't shoe string budget priced. Here is a link to one that is

Or, if you can afford more of a splurge, there are several choices, such as this one that I found just googling for Colorado cabins

Check out the cabins in Mueller State Park. They are inexpensive, new and beautiful! I would reserve soon though as they book quickly. You would be closest to Colo Springs, which has an airport that you can fly into to avoid Denver.

This spot is more remote than say, Breckenridge or Vail. No big ski town here, just beautiful scenerey, peace and quiet, wildlife, hiking/snowshoeing
