Clean lodging under $100, July in SW CO?

Hi,

it was suggested that I repost this question under a new topic heading.

Here is a link to my original question: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g28927-i252-k42099…

We're looking for lodging in the Telluride/Ouray/Durango/Pagosa Springs area.

There are 3 of us and we will be in the area for 2 nights in late July as part of a 2 week trip to the Southwest four corners area.

We hope to maybe do a horseback ride, hike, look around the area, maybe go to some hot springs, etc. while in the area.

Any other suggestions?

We hope to

Have you looked at the Vallecito Lake area? Lots of cabins and lodges there, so there could be something in your price range. I looked a a few...Bear Paw Lodge has a couple for $110 but their website says if booked by Feb 28 there's a discount. I don't know anything about that property but maybe others would.

I just saw the Ouray Chalet for $91 on Priceline, and that was the published price, not the name your own.

In Ouray, you might try the Riverside Inn and cabins and they may be in your price range. For more of a motel type stay, try Matterhorn Motel, Timberridge Motel, or Antlers Motel. You can find them on the http://www.ouraycolorado.com website under lodging.

Horseback riding with Bachl'r Stables is a great experience

I think Ouray is a great place so I would probably add another day or two there. I doubt you would be disappointed.

I hear that the 4J Campground has 1 cabin on their property. It might work. There is also a campground called Ouray RV park. I think they have 5 cabins in the $60/night range.

KOA has a campground outside of town too. I don't know too much about it.

My posting reading was out of order :-(

As for Durango, the Durango Lodge is a nice place to stay right in downtown area ... I would check rates there... Some of their TA reviews suggest that parking can be troublesome but I would talk to them about that and get the story over the phone myself.

Thanks and I'll check those out :)

I did check the Durango Lodge and it is $116/night + tax. Too expensive for what they offer I think.

What are your thoughts on the Ouray Hotel for $100/night inc. tax?

The Ouray Hotel is very clean, in town... you need to walk a flight of stairs to the upstairs to get to the checkin and rooms. Not a big deal, just mentioning it. They have reserved street parking so that would not be a problem. The proprietor is friendly & he is a one man show... does everything! I think it is a very good choice... I just didn't realize he would have a room with at least two beds, hence, I didn't mention it. Good to know!

Hi kavery,

I did know about the stairs but, thanks for the notice. For some that may be a deal breaker.

If you had to choose between the Ouray Hotel and the Ouray Chalet Inn for $10 more/night--which would be the better choice?

Any other negatives about the Ouray Hotel?

Would Ouray be a better spot to base ourselves for a couple of days visit to the area?
