Lucky me. 12 days in Colorado. Tips

I'm flying into Denver and intending to stay downtown for a couple of days before heading out to Vail for a four day conference. I'm on my own and always enjoy exploring on my own.

Then I'm planning on renting a motorcylce in Denver for a five day road trip returning to Denver.

Two things I need advice on - transportation to and from Vail from Denver.

Good tips on a route for that would be good for the five days on a bike.

Any tips that might be useful?

Thanks, Andy

Definitely take the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway to get to Estes Park/RMNP. My husband rides it at least twice a month and has for 20 years. It never gets old.

Here's a good website to check out for more routes and info: motorcycleroads.com/Routes/Colorado_81.html

Great advice. Many thanks it all looks good. Any ideas about temperature at elevation? I see denver temps have been around 20C what about typical temps in theRMNP?

I might need to pack a wooly jumper!

I'm arriving 31st may. Few days downtown Denver, then to bail for four day conference the back to Denver for my six day bike trip. Leaving 16th June. Not expecting to travel distances daily but enough to make the bike hire worth it.

We've had a very mild spring with some record high temps in the upper 80sF/30 C. June temperatures should be pretty much the same. Nights will be cooler of course, but I doubt you'll be riding the motorcycle around at night.

Sounds fab. Weather has been cr@p here. 5 degrees C this morning.

How about in the mountains? Sounds like itgonna be 15 C at least . I can cope with that. Used to it!

Thanks for your quick reply!

So far all my interaction with you coloradians (?) has been great. Really helpful and polite.

Thank you very much!

You're welcome. Boy, that is chilly!

Mountain temperatures can be 10-15 degrees cooler than Denver temps depending on elevation. Right now it's 63F here @ 8300' and it's 78 in Denver @5280. (sorry, I'm too lazy to convert ) : )

Thanks for the advice.

I had a great time. Was coldish and windy on both TRR and Independence pass, but everywhere else was more than hot enough! I still have the peeling nose to prove it.

Peak to Peak to Estes Park via Black Hawk and Nederland.

Trail Ridge Road

Estes to Loveland

Loveland to Leadville via Empire and Silverthorne (detour because I70 was really slow)

Leadville to Aspen and Glenwood Springs via Indpendence Pass

Canondale down to Hotchkiss and then through Gunnison / Black Canyon to Salida

Salida to Sand Dunes and onto Pueblo

Pueblo back to Denver

Spectacular - I loved it! great scenery, great roads, great bars, great people. In fact as they say in Co, it was Awesome!!

Thanks again for the advice. It really helped.
