Family trip to CO with 3 sons

Our 3 sons all graduated this past spring: one from college, one from high school, and one from 8th grade. A family trip to CO next week is planned to celebrate all!

We are staying Sat/Sun nights downtown Denver. Any dinner suggestions? Then we are renting a house from VRBO in Lyons Mon-Thursday nights. Friday night is open. Any suggestions where to stay Friday? We are flying in/out of Denver and have most of the day on Saturday before our flight leaves.

We would like to spend a good amount of time at Rocky Mtn National Park, but also have time for other fun activities.

We like to bike, hike, fish, kayak, golf. Mom would like to visit a winery. Dad and 22 year old would like to try the craft beers. Boys would like to zip line somewhere.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

thebeerdrifter.com/complete-list-of-colorado… might get you started with the beer part.

A trip to the falling rock is a must for beer aficionados

Sit at the bar and the service is somewhat less snotty. You go for the beer not the service.

Are you flying in? A nice stop if you find yourselves with extra time returning to the airport is http://www.gvrgolf.com/ open to the public minutes to the terminal yet nice and relaxing. Kill some time hitting some balls and a meal on the deck. Much better than hanging out in the airport!

The closest zipline will be in Idaho Springs.

Great hiking site for planning your hikes not only for RMNP but also the Brainard Lakes Recreation area in Indian Peaks Wilderness Area as well as other hikes in the Wilderness Area which is close to Lyons.

http://www.protrails.com/state/colorado

The closest golf course to Lyons is Twin Peaks in Longmont.

http://www.golflongmont.com/twinpeaks_home/

Estes Park has 2 golf courses, a 9 hole and an 18 hole. You at times have to share the courses with the elk.

Fishing near Lyons is discussed in this article.

http://www.coloradofishing.net/ft_ffish1.htm

The Colorado State Park Fishing Atlas shows other options.

…state.co.us/fishing/Pages/Fishing.aspx

There are special regulations for fishing inside the boundaries of RMNP.

Probably the favorite fishing spot near Estes Park/RMNP is Big Thompson River starting below the dam of Lake Estes and down highway 34 in Big Thompson Canyon.

For biking in Estes/RMNP, you can rent bikes from the Estes Park Mountain Shop.

River flows are getting low this time of year so kayaking may not be the best. The closest kayaking to Lyons would be St. Vrain River.

You can rent kayaks for Lake Estes at the Lake Estes marina - would not be my first choice.

http://www.evrpd.com/marina/marina-info

Assuming you are planning to drive and explore Trail Ridge Road (a do not miss) over to the town of Grand Lake and back (a very long day from Lyons), Grand Lake (the lake) is very popular with kayakers.

Clear Creek is another option fairly close to Lyons.

Boulder Creek is closer.

Snowy Peaks Winery in Estes Park is a nice stop.

In Lyons and Longmont, Oskar Blues is well known for its brews.

Thank you for all your advice! Looking forward to our visit! Do you know if fishing poles are available to rent in the park?
