Best place to go in late April?

Thinking about planning a trip for next April, after the 19th. Not looking for snow related activities.

Would any of these be a good choice, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Durango/Mesa Verde?

Grand Junction and Fruita are excellent choices because it will be spring in Grand Junction and the weather will be glorious. The weather will be probably be in the upper 60s, maybe low 70s in the desert areas if you are hiking. You can rent bikes to ride single track or go through the Palisade orchards in bloom, go horseback riding - http://rradventures.com/horseback-riding/ - or hike the many miles of trails, visit the CO National Monument, see the over 100 sculptures in the downtown Art on the Corner project.

Using Grand Junction as a lodging base, you can visit Dinosaur National Monument, Glenwood Springs, Arches National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Grand Mesa Scenic Byway in addition to Colorado National Monument. Members of my family did this and had a great time - except that snow storm at Douglas Pass. They had to turn back on the trip to Dinosaur.

We've been to Mesa Verde in April (if I remember correctly it was about the 24th) and it was a great time to go, IMO. Snow was gone, the weather was warm and pleasant during the day, and there were no crowds. There might or might not be snow in Durango, but there will likely be some in the nearby mountains. The Durango-Silverton train doesn't start until early May, but you can take the train to Cascade Canyon if you like.

The drive from Grand Junction to Montrose(do include the Black Canyon!)>Ridgway>Telluride>Cortez>Mesa Verde is really pretty at that time of year, too, with snow still on the mountain peaks (most years) but the roads are clear, usually. There can be some heavy snows in April, but very often we have mild weather and if it does snow, it usually clears off the roads quickly.

Glenwood Springs is at a low enough elevation that it is usually snow-free in April, too. So...Grand Junction, definitely, but maybe you could make a loop with a few days at each of the places that interest you, depending on how much time you have.
