driving from Glenwood Springs to Denver airport questions

We are visiting the area June 3-June 10. Our flight out of Denver leaves at 7pm on Tuesday, June 10. If we are coming from Glenwood Springs that day, what time do we need to leave Glenwood Springs? Google maps says 3 hours of drive time, but typically are there problem traffic areas at that time and day of the week?

Thanks much!

You'll want to allow extra time for construction at the twin tunnels near Idaho Springs. This month traffic may be delayed 30-60 minutes. You can check this site in June to see if there are planned delays when you are traveling: www.coloradodot.info/projects/i70twintunnels

Also check http://www.cotrip.org/home.htm for any alerts/road conditions before you leave for the airport.

Also, please remember to take into account that you will be involved in at least part of rush hour traffic when driving thru Denver in later afternoon.

Yep, if you get to the west side of Denver right at the time the federal employees leave the Federal Center traffic can be very heavy. That has been around 4 pm or so in my experience (they get to work very early it seems).

I would leave by mid morning to allow for any delays and plan on arriving at rental car place by 4:30pm. As you get closer to Denver you will be able to decide if you have time to stop and do some sightseeing. In western Denver is Dinosaur Ridge http://www.dinoridge.org/ and Buffalo Bill's Grave and a bison herd.

Thanks for the info - bummer, I was hoping we could wait until noon or 1pm before leaving. Any alternative (scenic?) routes? Thanks for the info on Dinosaur Ridge as a possible place to stop if there is time. Any other suggestions on things to do in the vicinity of the airport if we end up there early?

I have been to an interesting wildlife refuge about 40 minutes from DIA in Keenesburg. It has lions, tigers and bears, oh my. (Plus more.) http://www.wildanimalsanctuary.org/home.html I happened to be there the day some schools were there for a field trip and the kids really enjoyed the animals.

I'll check into that wildlife refuge!

Any other route suggestions to get around traffic delays? Any other things to do near the airport?
