need advice for colorado trip

we have a last minute trip planned 9/2-9/8. We've been to beaver creek once about 10 yrs ago for a weekend, Park Hyatt loved it. was going back but they are under construction. Also confused, just read about Estes Park, the hot springs, don't know which direction to go. we are looking for relaxation, a bit of hiking, maybe 1 day fly fishing, the rest of the time just hanging.

Beaver Creek is beautiful, but VERY expensive for hotels & activities, and has grown since you were there! Estes Park is lovely, lots of tourists, but great hikes around Rocky Mtn National Park; fly fishing available, and reasonable lodging. Colorado springs area also nice - Manitou Springs is great little town, good hiking there too. Breckenridge another great place for relaxing, fly fishing, hiking. Drink plenty of water, dehydration a problem at the higher altitudes.

It's a beautiful time of year to be in Estes Park. You will probably be in between really busy times - summer is over and kids have gone back to school, but Elk Fest is still a few weeks away. Not sure you'll hit any Aspen changing yet. We always go at the end of September when the elk are really getting going and seems they are changing then. It's also a fabulous time to hike. Find a place along Fall River - that would be really peaceful.

Thank you so much for the helpful info. I spoke to someone who says that RMNP, Estes Park will be very crowded, any thoughts on Steamboat, thanks for you time.

From a Vail local here.... yes a portion of the Park Hyatt IS under construction but the rest of the resort is NOT! Why discount Beaver Creek just because one hotel has construction? I would suggest looking into other accomodations here. The Pines Lodge is one of my favorites to recommend. Get one of their rooms with a fireplace> so romantic!!!

Check out www.snow.com for events happening the week you'll want to come!

The hiking is great that time of year and the "hanging" even better, especially if hanging means nice leisurely meals> Can't beat the Vail area for top notch restaurants & shopping!!! Have FUN!

Estes might be a little crowded, but it is a wonderful time of year to be there and I believe you will see the crowd primarily over the weekend. The park has so many great hiking trails that the crowds will not be problem there.

Steamboat is very pretty and early September is a nice time of year. You might also consider Breckenridge or even Winter Park. All are mountain resort towns with shops, outdoor music, hiking and biking trails as well as great rivers for fishing.
