train and rental cars

We are going to NYC in September to visit our son. On the Monday we would like to take the subway/train to somewhere in Conn. to rent a car and drive up the coast and return on the Friday.

Can someone give me suggestions on how to do this, which route, and which city would be a good place to rent the car. Thanks.

Thanks in advance.

Subways only operate in the 5 boroughs of NYC, so you'd have to go to Grand Central Station and take a Metro North train on the New Haven Line to get to Connecticut. I think that getting off in Greenwich would be good.

You can find train schedule/route/rate info at:

I would suggest you research the locations of car rental agencies in Greenwich (one of the larger coastal CT towns/cities) and perhaps use someone like Enterprise (where they bring the car to you at the train station).
