Itinerary for Saybrook Stay

My mother, 24 year old daughter and I are planning a short trip July 5 - 9 in this area. We are coming from Ohio, planning a stop at Harney and Sons and relaxing in Saybrook. We enjoy touring old homes, tea rooms, lighthouses, natural waterfalls, flower gardens, boat rides, shelling, bike rides, walking tours, dining on the waterfront and staying in bed and breakfasts. Essex's train and boat ride looks like something we might enjoy, as well as Gillette's Castle. I am also considering Allegra farm for a carriage ride and lunch at the soda fountain, We enjoy more out of the way quaint places to touristy urban areas. Can you help me plan my itinerary?

A huge thanks to all of you. Our itinerary is changing daily. My daughter would like to add a stop at the Yankee Candle Company and my mom loves Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. I'm afraid this is turning into a road trip instead of a relaxing vacation. We love your suggestions- the soda fountain and home tour sound like things we enjoy. I loved your website. My daughter loves the Thimble Island boat ride suggestion - I get a bit seasick, so I can pass on that (but we all do some give and take). Guildford looks beautiful. I usually end up enjoying something someone else picked more than the things I wanted to do. The falls sound wonderful - we enjoy the beauty of nature. I'm hoping we still find some time to stop and smell the roses. I have made no lodging reservations yet, but I have a feeling we better be doing it soon. Thank you again.

Many days the waters around the Thimble Islands are flat calm but its only a 45 min. tour if you want to sit on the dock and watch the comings and goings. Yankee Candle is only an hour from Hartford but Ben and Jerry's is several hours and there's better ice cream all over the place www.roadfood.com/TheBest/NewEnglandIceCream/
