Help me plan a perfect summer vacation in CT

Hi,

We are travelling to the US from overseas and want to find a nice place in CT to rent a summer house in July for two weeks. We are a couple with a two year old kid, and will have visitors coming as well.

We would like a place near a nice beach and a small cozy town with good restaurants. Can somebody suggest such a place/town for us? That would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I myself prefer Madison Ct. Have been going there for the last 11yrs. It is a nice town. Plenty of good restaurants within driving distance. Most of the beach is private with the exception of Hammonasset St Pk. There you pay a fee to go to the beach. If you are a reader there is a great book store in town. Also a grocery store. If you are a shopper they have outlet malls about 15-20 min away. About 1 1/2 hours north there is a Six Flags Great Adventure Amusement PK. 45 min east there are casinos. About an hour east Mystic Aquarium. 1/2 west the New Haven Colisseum where they have concerts. You can check the internet to see who is playing there. Also have concerts at the casinos. Great antiquing in New London 30-40 min away. Also there I believe you can take the high speed ferry to Block Island and to Montauk NY. Madison is a great base camp. Also Guilford is a nice town however I have never stayed there. If you go to either place do yourself a favor and take everyone on the Thimble Island cruise. Its a lot of fun.

Old Lyme, Connecticut has many cottage rentals that include access to private association beaches. Several good restaurants and easy drive to Mystic. Visit Essex to see a classic New England town. http://www.griswoldinn.com/. Also short ride to casinos for dining and entertainment http://www.mohegansun.com/gateway/index.html Clinton Crossing for shopping www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp… your daughter might enjoy www.thedinosaurplace.com/plan/index.shtml

do take a 45 ride around the thimble islands http://www.thimbleislands.com/

I grew up spending my summers in Westbrook, CT, just 2 towns east of Madison. I prefer West Beach in Westbrook (because there is I spent all my time), but Grove Beach is nice too. All the comments in the 1st reply, apply to Westbrook. I prefer Lenny & Joe's in Madison to the one in Westbrook, mostly because it is much more relaxed (bring your own wine/beer) and they serve lobster.
