Where are you coming from?
In Hartford, the Wadsworth Atheneum deserves a visit. There are other places to visit like the Mark Twain House, Harriet Beecher Stowe House, etc. I am sure someone with Hartford area expertise can recommend more things to see there. If you can indicate your interests and your flexibility to travel outside of Hartford proper it would help us to help you.
Drive to Essex and walk Main St. Check out the tap room or the wine bar at the Griswold Inn http://www.griswoldinn.com/. Visit Clinton Crossing if you're a shopper www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp… ride around the classic Guilford Green and walk around. Take route 146 to Stony Creek and ride http://thimbleislandcruise.com/. Its about an hour to the shore and an hour back.
