Delaware shore with young children-where exactly?

Delaware shore with young children-where exactly?

We'd like to be an easy walk to a beach (under 10 minutes) and stay somewhere clean and relatively updated. Not necessary to have eye popping amusement or Disney-esque entertainment. No need for nightlife but some good restaurants a plus. Which community is best for us? Our girls are six and two.

There are many places to stay along the Delaware shore. I am quite fond of Sea Colony in Bethany Beach because the complex caters to families with young children.

The condos are fully furnished. The ones on the east side are a short walk to the beach. On the east side you can easily return to the condo for lunch, and then back out to the beach (or the outdoor pool, or the indoor pool). There are organized activities for young kids; somemores, bonfires, sandbuilding contest, dinner and a movie, etc.

The condos at Sea Colony are individually owned. Most have been updated. The rentals can be arranged through an agency or through the owner. These days you can see pictures on the web to determine that the condo meets your needs. Reviews have been posted on tripadvisor.

Your kids are the perfect age for Funland on the north end of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. Whether or not you choose to stay in Rehoboth, you should definitely plan a visit there one night. http://www.funlandrehoboth.com/

Agree with Wythany that Funland is ideal for your kids at that age.......and a real bargain as well....you could stay anywhere, but maybe try to be close to Rehoboth, lots of dining & shopping options, but sans the hub-bub of "the big city"....OCMD would be for future vacations.

Whoops! Just realized I posted the wrong info on Funland's location. It's SOUTH of Rehoboth Ave., on the Boardwalk between Delaware and Brooklyn Avenues.

Many thanks for the info! We're thinking of Bethany because we were hoping for something a little less intense than Sea Colony. Thoughts? Good places to get seafood in the area? Funland looks like a good bet for a night!

If you decide to stay in or near Bethany. make sure that you are east of Route 1. It is a major 4 lane highway with limited traffic signals for pedestrians to cross. There are several communities north Bethany that have larger homes and private beaches. They are more expensive but would be my preference.

There are a few decent restaurants in the Bethany area (and even more in Rehoboth / Dewey and Ocean City). Blue Coast is popular for seafood and some folks like Fat Tuna.
