Floridians in Summer

To avoid winter, many Northerns and Mid-westerns spend winter months in Florida

Are there particular cities, resorts etc where Floridians go in summer to avoid heat - looking for places that have monthly rates in summer.

We go to Ashville, NC, Boone and Blowing Rock, NC and Piegeon Forge and Gatlinberg, Tenn. It is not always cool buy you can go tubing and hike into the mountains, horseback ride, etc. My mother in law likes to go to Canada. They have a travel trailer so can stay a couple months up there.

This is really a weird question, Do want to hang out with Floridians? or are you looking to beat the heat? if the later is the reason and you live in DE nowI would just head up to Maine, or anywhere on one of the great lakes. Most Floridians pick the closest mountins to have the shortest drive and coolest climate. If you are looking to avoid the heat from Delaware, you would not want to drive south. To get monthy rentals call any real estate office in the town you pick and they will point you in the right direction.

There is a web site many people use for weekly and monthly rentals. www.vrbo.com (It's vacation rentals by owner). You type in the city and it will bring up a list of rentals listed with this company but you rent directly from the owner. And as previous poster said any realtly company will have monthly rentals but they may not be vacation rentals. Some require a minumum stay of a few months.

Also the chamber of commerce in most cities can be a big help in giving you a list of rental companies. That's how I found one place in north carolina that was not listed on the internet.

This is an interesting question, look forward to more answers. I am another that will head to the nearest mountains. Usually Gatlinburg, TN. Sometimes Helen, GA. But just as often somewhere else in FL, Key West, St. Augustine, Daytona (No Disney) !! Biloxi, MS, but not since Katrina.
