July holiday

Hi folks, we are a family of 4 Brits (50,49,18,16). We had a fantastic holiday in California in 2008 thanks to help on Trip Advisor. Rather late, we are looking to have a beach holiday in Florida (gulf coast?) early July this year.

In 2000 we did Disney and Clearwater so thought it about time to return. We would be looking at a villa/appartment for a few weeks close to a nice bearch. maybe pop to Orlando for a day or two but otherwise just chill.

Coming after July 11th we should beat a lot of the other Brits. Will we get plenty of sun?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Richard

Check out Marco Island. It is a perfect place to chill. The beach is wonderful--long and wide. Our teenagers love to bike, sheel, jet ski, kayak, fish, swim, parasail and golf when we vacation there. We have given them opportunities to go to other places and they always want to return. There is fine dining and casual dining. The island has a theater too.

Early July usually has some rain showers but they are usually a passing afternoon shower. Late July gets very hot & usually less rain unless we have a tropical depression going on. Look at the gulf coast forum it may have some more info on places to stay. Many people like Sanibel, Anna Maria Island, etc. Lots of great places in that area.

Hi Richard,

Take a look around the Venice/Sarasota area. It is approx 2 hrs from Orlando, so not too far for a day or two at the parks. It is an ideal location for travelling up and down the coast - and there is just so much to see and do. The beaches around there are fantastic - around Sarasota the sand is like walking on icing sugar it is so white and soft. Also the shops at St Armand are a must (that's for wife). Also try a bit of searching for sharks teeth on the beaches in Venice and the jetty is great fun. Surfing, fishing etc. The Historic town of Venice is really quaint with old fashioned shops. I could go on and on, but better stop. Hope you have a great holiday.

If anything you will get too much sun- I have a home there and find the summers very hot lol. It will be hot and humod with PM thundertorms, but plenty of sunshine,

My recs for you would be Anna Maria Island, Longboat, Siesta or Lido Keys. These barrier islands just south of Tampa are very close to Sarasota with all its dining and shopping choices, but still on lovely pictuesque beaches. Plenty to see and do, but more laid back and prettier and less built up than Clearwater. Busch Gardens isn't far, and orlando will be only 2 hours away.
