First of all, you will be goind over Easter so you'll need to book your RV parks early to get in. In the Keys I would highly rec going to Bahia Honda State park. I don't know how many spots they have there so get looking and booking lol.

I highly rec Gulf coast beaches. I have a house there, so am not up on RV park locations around there so you might also have a look over on the Camping RV forums. There is a thread on the Keys forum right now about an upcoming RV trip- go there and read it.

But have a look for a good park in Bradenton, near to AMI ( I don't think ther eis one on island) and maybe there is actually one you could book on Long Boat Key or Siesta Key. All three of these islands are great for families and have some great beaches. Mote Aquarium, Gwiz Science museam are nearby and you can take nature watching trips.

Only 4 nights in Orlando? that will be tight but your idea is a great one so far. On the orlando forum you could post about Ft Wilderness, lots love it there.

Do make reservations early. Think about Georgia's Sea Islands (especially Cumberland) on the way down. Also think about Fernandina, a neat old town complete with fort. The Timucuan Preserve (National Park Service) is worth a visit for scenery and history.

Northern peninsular Florida has a stellar collection of springs. Alexander and Juniper are in Ocala National Forest; others are state parks. St. Augustine is worth dropping by for the fort. Maybe not as impressive as Baltimore's, but it's the real deal and survived siege.

The Florida State Parks website should provide many suggestions. Some of the remote parks (including Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, with astronomy programs at new moon) are rewarding.

If the kids would like to see state-of-the-art surfing, be sure to visit Sebastian Inlet (the County runs an campground next door at Long Point). The Inlet has a museum on the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet disaster, another on fishing, and (a bit north) a new nature center focusing on sea turtles. This is one of the busiest sea turtle nesting spots in the world (ranks with Oman).

Gainesville has the outstanding Florida Museum of Natural History, with dazzling displays of our big ice age mammals, a huge tropical butterfly display, and a unique intro to the Calusa people. In typical US fashion, the largest state university is located in a relatively small town; the vast University of Florida utterly dominates Gainesville.

Orlando's science center has IMAX and more. http://www.osc.org/

In southern Florida, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (private, operated by Audubon) is unforgettable. Rookery Bay has one of the state's many excellent environmental learning centers. The bay was rescued from being turned into another Marco Island. http://www.rookerybay.org/

The southern Gulf coast has fine beaches, including Lovers Key State Park.

If you make it to Miami, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is not quite a tropical Kew, but it has splendid landscapes and collections, including one of the best palm collections anywhere. The relatively new display of Madagascar succulents (outdoors) is entertaining.

With respect to beaches, I need to point out that Sebastian Inlet has excellent surfing, but is not very good for casual beach-goers. Volusia County (Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach) has easier-to-swim beaches with excellent lifeguarding.

Yes, the Panhandle would be worth visiting if you can avoid spring break crowds which you should do getting there after Easter.

It all depends on what next year weather is up to. Still under where it should be now although recovering. Some times is is already very hot then. Too far in advance to pridict now but you'll be able to fine tune your itineraray next winter. But you do need to make some reservations at the best must see areas/state parks.

My kids would totally like to do this sort of trip!

And Blue Russo had some good suggestions in there esp Cumberland and fernandina.

Depends on how much time you are spending in Florida. If 2 weeks or more you will have time to do a lot. If less than you need to pick & choose. Panhandle to Key West is a lot of driving. Panhandle has nice beaches and has a lot for kids that age to do, keys are more for snorkeling, diving & water sports, not beaches. Gulf coast also has nice beaches. Miami is a very large city not a place to drive around in an RV, are you also towing a car? Or renting one in some places for getting around. If you do stay in or near Miami a trip to the Everglades would be good. You can also access the everglades from the gulf coast side.

Hi jukes, if you do decide to go to Key West, post on that forum and ask where you can park the motorhome for a day and take a taxi or bus into old town. You most definitely do not want to drive it into old town, as the streets are extremely narrow and congested and parking is very limited!

Bahia Honda campground is lovely, but I don't think there is a bus system that you can catch nearby to get to Key West, but maybe locals will know :-)

We found St Augustine to be a fun stop - the oldest city in the USA. It's quite small and easy to get around in and there are off street parking lots.

Check out Marco Island. It has a great beach, is VERY family friendly, great shelling, fishing, bike riding, and is very laid back. We have been taking our kids there for years and they love it. The Miami airport is about 2 hours south of here and an easy drive.

all the gulf coast beaches will be calmer. But I don't know where the best RV parks are, but do know where the best beaches are lol! Poast ont he sarasota forum there as someone might know a good one. Ft Myers and Naples forums too.

Everglades would be easy to do day trips to from most places along there, and Myakka River State park gives you an everglades type experience just east of Sarasota. But don't stay in an RV park near there inland as mosquitos could be a problem if the heat and wet come sooner than this year.

If you decide to visit the Gulf Beaches of AMI, Holiday Cove RV Park,

located at 11900 Cortez Rd. in the historic fishing village of Cortez, just

before the Cortez Bridge, is a popular site. I would heed the advice of

those who says limit your driving over a 10 day period, perhaps

concentrate on Orlando and the areas just south of Tampa Bay

and leave Key West for another trip. Many people stop in the Fort

Myers area and take the boat to Key West, that is also a possiblity,

and all the travel info you need is available on the internet for

planning your trip in advance.
