two grown-ups in search of quiet beach

No Disney, no kids. Not familiar with Florida. Want to kick back, eat seafood, walk on beach, clear our minds. Oh! And definitely avoid spring break mayhem. Where to start? You smart people, of course! Your ideas will be most appreciated.

Sarasota area maybe?

What do you like? Sunrises and surf or sunsets and pure white sand? hig rise high life? Or low rise low key with lashings of nature?

What time if year? Best airport for you to fly into?

Assuming spring: Melbourne Beach, Vero Beach, Pass-A-Grille, nearly anywhere in the Sarasota area, Sanibel, areas on the south end of Ft Myers Beach. When it is warmer, also look in the panhandle and the Fernandina/Amelia Island area.

Panhandle - beautiful white sand and emerald water:

Quiet areas on route 30A between Destin and Panama City.

Also Navarre Beach and eastern Pensacola Beach where it adjoins the protected national seashore.

If it's spring, be sure to book early. Sarasota is having a very busy winter season, and I think that's the case in my town, too.

I'd like to hear back from the original poster about preferences and budget. My community is nice for older people on generous budgets (although there's always some young Europeans and a flight training school brings in young students from as far away as Australia).
