Good romantic beach day near Disney, Orlando?

Hi all - we are going end of October and this is a honeymoon trip to the Disney world and we have one day for a beach. We are seeking a romantic, island-ey feel and we are so short on time (only one day for a beach) I wanted to know what beaches are good to visit around the Disney, Orlando area? We are okay with the drive if it's within manageable time ( 2 hours max).

Two places to look at would be Anna Maria Island on the Gulf side and Ponce Inlet on the Atlantic side. Anna Maira probably has the most islandy feel. We always stop at The Sand Bar there. Ponce Inlet is part of the metro Daytona area. Most of Daytona is built up but Ponce Inlet is not. The Hidden Treasure Rum Bar is a great place to stop there. It's got a pretty good lost in the Everglades feel to it.

Nice choices, but another possibility. If you are looking for a day trip to an "island" beach, Playalinda Beach at the Canaveral National Seashore is pristine, very undeveloped, and similar to a deserted island because it is sandwiched in between the ocean and a lagoon. It is also very natural and uncrowded. The water should still be warmer at the end of October.

Two caveats, however: first, if the government shutdown continues, the Canaveral National Seashore will remain closed. Second, the beach is so undeveloped that there are no restaurants or shops there, so you need to take everything you need, like drinks and a picnic lunch. There are restrooms and multiple parking lots.

Playalinda Beach is on the Ocean east of Titusville, which is reached by the Beachline Expressway (SR528) from Orlando. It will take slightly less than an hour to Titusville, and then another 15-20 minutes out to the beach.

Nearby cities, aside from Titusville, which isn't really a resort town, are Cocoa Beach, south of Playalinda and Ponce Inlet, north. There are many restaurants in Cocoa Beach; if you are wanting a special place, consider the Mango Tree, which we use for our own special occasions. there's also several restaurants built on the pier extending over the Ocean.

Congratulations, and enjoy your honeymoon!

Playalinda is definitely pretty isolated. You can drive over from Titusville, but you can't get to civilization on the beach road. To the South is the Kennedy Space Center, which you can't get into. To the North is a large missing section so you can't get up to New Smyrna.

Thanks! Anna Maria island looks gorgeous! Any ideas guys on a closer beach destination, though that can be enjoyed for one day. I asked the hubby and he doesn't seem too keen to drive 2 hours :(

We will be returning to our hotel the same night which is near walt Disney world.

The closet beaches in either direction would probably be Jetty Park to the East and St Pete Beach to the West. I don't know that much about either, but beaches to the West will have the best chance of a tropical feel, since they're on the warm, relatively calm Gulf. The East side Beaches are on the Atlantic, which tends to be rougher and not tropical at all until you get down to Miami. We normally go to Daytona, which is closer for us but probably a half hour farther out for you.

Look at Honeymoon Island State Park too on the Gulf side. It is much closer than Anna Maria.
