any special 'key' to snorkel off of?

will be staying at Key Largo for 3 nights before heading ENP. heard that Pennakamp park is great for snorkeling if you go out in tour boat - research sounds one of the more afforadable ones..

but is there another part of the keys where we can snorkel without a tour boat? maybe a beach or a concrete peir? - last on BIG ISland in HI - were a few 'parks ' that deposited snorkelers right into deep ociean / coral / rocks where you can snorkel for free...

will have a car and can drive to another key?

Repost on the local Keys board for better info. But know that the reef is off shore and is the location of the best snorkeling.

You can snorkel for lots of places along the shore line but you won't see much. As stated the actual reef is off shore aways. Lots of people snorkel at Bahia Honda park just south of the 7-mile bridge. As suggested post on the Florida Keys forum for more info.
