What beach in GA?

I like to get away for NYE. Thinking of flying into ATL Friday night and then heaing towards the ocean coast. From what i can tell, depending on where we go it will be about 4-5 hours. So we'd hve Sat, Sun, Mon on the beach before heading back to ATL Tuesday to head home.

So the question is, what is the best beach for us to head to? I've heard Tybee Island is fun.... but do ya'll have other recommendations?

St Simons is also a possibility. It would be a little warmer than Tybee. East Beach on St Simons is very broad at low tide.

St Simons is a little less "beachy" than Tybee in look and feel. Tybee reminds you some of beaches 40 or 50 years ago.

Have you tried flying into Savannah? Or, if St Simons is your choice, Jacksonville?

What makes a beach "best" to you? The beach itself? Then Jekyll Island. But Jekyll is very quiet and natural. St. Simons is close, the beaches are not as nice but there's more to do. Tybee is close to Savannah and has more activity. The absolutely more gorgeous beaches are at Cumberland Island. You have to take a ferry there and camp or stay at the expensive (but worth it) Greyfield Inn.

Also consider flying into Jax and going to Amelia Island.

Reason we'd play into ATL is price. NYE flights this year are much higher than years in the past but thats affordable and has times we want.

We like a nice beach but would also be good to have a few places to hang out too - couple bars to play pool/watch a game, etc.

You might also think about driving to Panama City, Destin or Gulf Shores if you want white sand beaches, turquoise blue water.

You can fly into Panama City Beach and do PCB or Destin or fly into Jacksonville and do Amelia Island.

Both cities are serviced by Delta and Southwest and other airlines but those two we have personally used.

Both those areas are great if you want just beach. If you want to visit Savannah too and see the historic district, riverfront, etc then yes fly into Atlanta and drive down and enjoy both Savannah and Tybee Island.

Realize it will too cold to enjoy the water unless you go to the most southern beaches of Florida. I would pick Hilton Head SC; nicer hotels, more things to do than Tybee. The water and beaches are nicer on the gulf coast of Florida versus the east coast of SC/GA/FL.
