travellers cheques

it is some time since I holidayed in the usa,cash is always king but is it best to have a credit card with you or are travellers cheques still used at most hotel/retail outlets or are they a bit outdated.

Don't bother with travellers' checks; a lot of places won't accept them any more (fraud is apparently rampant). Take your credit card instead.

ATMs and credit cards are a better, easier choice. But Traveller's Cheques are still used ... not as common.

Credit card and ATM will do you fine. You'll want to carry some cash to accommodate the small businesses and venders, and the few other places that don't accept credit.
