Cooking Time?

How long am I supposed to cook the buried "turkey" in the ground before I can feed it to my clan on Thursday?

I'd say 8 hours is fine, especially if I catch a "swell" on the south side!

May you ALL have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a moment of reflection for ALL we have to be thankful in this life.

Aloha friends!

Depends on the size of the turkey and temperature of the pit.

Since I have never buried a turkey, so I am assuming slow and low, i.e., smoking.

General rule for smoking a turkey is 30 minutes a pound, or if you have a 12 lbs bird, looks like 6 to 8 hrs. HTH and Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know you can prepare a turkey here and then take it to certain places that dig a huge imu and they will cook it for you? It's a big fund raiser here, caddy!!

I love the way I cook a turkey, but really - a turkey cooked in an imu sounds like it would be absolutely delicious! :)

Happy Thanksgiving to all you forum friends - have a great day with your family and friends!! :)
