My husband and I live in rural Morgan County and recently decided to visit the recently opened Texas Corral restaurant which is on 37 S. near Walmart.
We were very glad that we did! After very disappointing experiences at the Damons that formerly occupied this building we were a bit hesitant, however, our bravery (LOL) in going to Texas Corral was well-rewarded.
The restaurant was busy, but, we were promptly (and cheerfully!) seated. This is a "throw the peanut shells on the floor" kinda place and we like that casual atmosphere, so, our initial impression was quite good.
The special of the evening was offered as a BBQ combo platter.....ribs, brisket, pulled pork and 2 sides for $19.99. While we sipped on our soft drinks we pondered the menu and decided to order the BBQ combo plus an extra side and share it. Worked out great and I cannot emphasize enough how very GOOD the bbq was. We've eaten BBQ in lots of places across the USA and this was as good as we've had. We were surprised and delighted. The sides (loaded baked potatoes ...1 each....and a salad big enough to share) were quite good, too. I am picky about baked potatoes and I was quite happy with mine!
My only "complaint" is that TC doesn't offer BUTTER......only a margarine spread. Come on, TC!
Dessert was strawberry cheesecake (1 piece shared) and it was really very good.
We asked to speak to the manager and when she made her way over to our table she presented herself very well and was quite cordial. Her name is Rana Mathers. We gave her our thoughts on the restaurant/service/food quality and asked a bit about Texas Corral since this was not a restaurant name we had been familiar with.
Turns out that TC is a northern Indiana based company who has several restaurants in northern Indiana and is just now coming into more southern reaches of the state. Martinsville is their first franchise down this way.
Keep up the good work..........Rana and staff. We'll be back to see you one of these days and we trust that we'll find you maintaining quality in every area of the restaurant. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
