Car needed in New Orleans?

We'll be spending 3 days in New Orleans at the end of March and I was wondering if a car is needed or if it would just be an expensive burden (sounds like parking is hard to come by). We plan to stay in the French Quarters area.

You do not need a car in New Orleans. It is a very walkable city, taxis are cheap if needed and the streetcar and bus system is very good. Cars are expensive to park.

Lynngt..........parking is not a problem it's just expensive. You won't need a car unless you want to take a day trip to a plantation or someplace outside town. There are tours that will pick you up so don't rent a car. Take a cab from the airport to your hotel. You can ride the Riverfront streetcar to get around the FQ and CBD area. You can take the Canal streetcar N to City Park or restaurants along in there. Fun is the St. Charles streetcar to the GD and Uptown. Be sure to visit the WWII DDay Museum and the movie by Tom Hanks. If you need any help with dining let us know. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
