any luxury resorts to try

We are travelling to Maine in August with our active nine year old son and would love to stay for a few days at a luxury resort by the ocean. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check out the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth.

There is a path directly onto Crescent Beach.

Not sure what their availability will be like right now for August.

Not really a lot of luxury resorts in Maine but there is the Samoset in Rockport, and the Stage Neck Inn in Southern Maine. On a less-luxurious scale you have the Holiday Inn Resort in Bar Harbor, where the Obama family stayed.

I saw several happy families vacationing at the Samoset Resort this past weekend. They have redone their outdoor pool area, which looks out over the ocean. They also offer a Kids Club with various activities. If the weather isn't great, there is also an indoor pool. If you like spas, they have just redone that as well. Their outdoor seating at the restaurants offers a couple of firepits. Your son would probably enjoy that.

You could also consider Point Lookout Resort, which often has last-minute availability because it is not right on the ocean. It is a short drive to the ocean however, and is between touristy Camden and laid-back Belfast. An easy day-trip to Acadia National Park too.

I like Point Lookout's cabins, but they really need to put in a pool! Point Lookout was once the corporate retreat for MBNA, so there are sports fields and a bowling alley, as well as a nice little cafe.

Take a look at the Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg.
