First time to Maine, don't know where to start.

Hello. We have never been to Maine and are overwhelmed with all of the information. What do you feel are the "must sees" in the state? Here are our plans thus far:

8 days to explore

We love the outdoors/hiking/biking

We will have a car

Help!

The first thing is Acadia National Park. You could spend the entire week here. There is the rocky seashore, biking on car-free carriage roads, hiking for all skill levels, mountain-top views, boat excursions, and a variety of restaurants from lobster to fine dining.

If you want to see more of the state, you could do day trips to what is called Downeast Maine, which is north and east of Acadia National Park. The Sunrise Trail offers great biking and things are quite rustic there. It hasn't yet been very discovered by the tourist trade. Generally, the further north you come along the coast, the less traffic and hassle. Ogunquit and Kennebunkport are more beach towns. Camden, Bar Harbor, and north are more activity-related vacation spots.

Excellent, thank you.

Can you recommend a few "mom and pop" restaurants as well?
