First of all, let me send a very large thank you for everyone's great suggestions and well thought out itineraries.I would be amiss if I did not give any feedback for future Maine traveling tourists. I had visited this site many times in the last month to try and plan the perfect trip. It came very close.
First day I arrived in Bangor and drove my rented car to Bar Harbor., Ate lunch outside by the bay at the Bar Harbor Inn. ( lovely spot) Checked in to my b&b, Annes White Columns, (which I cant say enough about), and spent the rest of the day driving the park loop road to familarize myself with this area. Next day was serious park loop road adventure. Following day, I explored the many towns on Mt Desert isle, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Seal Beach, while visiting the Bass Harbor lighthouse and searching for the famous Thurstons. What a great find. Location and lobster roll couldnt be beat. Oh yes, in the evening it was pleasant walks shopping in downtown Bar Harbor while enjoying another tip from this site-Mt. Desert Ice cream namely sea salt caramel.
Well it was time to move on to my next stop, Camden, Was about a 2 hr drive. Cute little seaport town. Drove up the Mt. Battie auto road and later took a sunset sailing cruise. Cant wait to develop those beautiful pictures I snapped while cruising on the water. Next on the agenda was Portland. Since i am quite the spontaneous type, I stopped at Rockport Harbor to snap some pictures and continued to Rockland breakwater lighthouse. Thank you, thank you thank you. I loved walking out to the lighthouse. This definitely was one of the highlights of my trip and of course wouldnt have known about it except for everyones input on this site. Oh yes, I did browse through the art museum in Rockport . That night I had checked into the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. I would highly recommend it. Unpacked and headed out to find Harrakeseets for something to eat. I had their lobster bisque which I can say was probably the best I have ever eaten. Once again, felt like I was on a little expedition trying to locate it but was well worth the find. Loved the food and great view. I finally arrived in Portland and the next day took the trolley tour of the city. Did some shopping and headed back to Bangor.
Hope everyone enjoys my trip summation and maybe this will help someone plan their next excursion as did reading other's reports help me plan mine.
