Trip planning for 2014

We are in the very early stages of planning our trip to Maine for next summer. First decision we are trying to decide is which month, June, July or August? We would like to visit a beach or two so would like warm weather/water but also want to avoid the crowds. Also, want to eat LOTS of lobster - not sure there is a better time of year for that???

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

"warm weather/water but....avoid the crowds" -- you've described a mutually-exclusive situation.... While the water will be its warmest in July and August, that's also when the biggest crowds are here -- they're all looking for the same thing(s) you are... The good news is that "crowds" is a relative term and even at their worst, "crowds" on Maine beaches don't begin to compare to the crowds we've seen in more populated areas of Florida, California, etc. Lobster is generally available year-round, especially in the three months you've mentioned because that's when the seasonal lobster pounds are open....

It may be different in different areas, but we noticed that the 2nd week of July (i.e. the week after the week containing the 4th) tends to be relatively "slower" (in terms of business), an observation confirmed by our local Chamber of Commerce. So that might be a good time to consider in terms of trying to optimize "crowd" avoidance vs. warm weather / warm water. Of course, as MainerOnTheGo has pointed out, "crowd" is a relative term....
