Maine Trip - Good places to stop and see

I am going on a trip through Maine with my girlfriend in the first part of October and wanted to get some advice where to stop. We want to see some good scenery and good places to take some pictures. We are going to stop in Bar Harbor and then work our way down to Portland. We'll probably end the trip in Boston but wanted to get some advice of what to see and where to stay on the way down. We love to eat and drink beer so any good advice on where to eat and drink would be helpful. Best place to get a beer and some lobster? Any tourist or travel tips would be great. We also want to go to the Arcadia National Park for a day. We hope to get some good pictures and hope to have a good time.

Thanks in advance for any posts.

Acadia is certainly nice and obviously worth a visit, but the Blue Hill Peninsula and Stonington, just south of the Acadia area are the most beautiful places to me.

There are so many places to eat and drink it's hard to mention, but for lobster, even the grocery stores will cook it for you and you can make your own picnic if the weather is nice and you want to save a bunch of money.

Acadia National Park is wonderful for public access to the renowned coast of Maine and for great photographic opportunity. To get an idea of the kind of photographs you can look forward to, see this article recently published:

Bar Harbor is the place tourists generally find food and accommodation during a visit to Acadia. Blaze is a restaurant with many, many beers on tap. Mache Bistro is a restaurant with stunningly wonderful food. Lobster can be had almost anywhere. Stewman's in Bar Harbor is built out over the water and has various sizes of lobster dinners. Thurston's Lobster Pound is on the other side of Mount Desert Island from Bar Harbor. It is on a very photogenic harbor with lots of lobster boats and traps.

Highway 1 as you head down the coast from Bar Harbor to Portland doesn't have many views of the ocean. But a stop at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge with its observatory on top of one of the bridge supports will give you a great view. Camden is a good stop and the drive up to the top of Mount Battie, just north of the village of Camden, is well worth it for the view up and down the coast.

Portland has a reputation as a foodie town. Lots of great restaurants. Our favorite is Fore Street. Our favorite place to stay in Portland is the Portland Regency.
