You are aware, of course, that you sound like a travel writer trying to get other people (us) to do your job, right?

You posted less than 9 hours ago and have already deleted your membership. It doesn't sound like you really plan to hang out here, wait for answers and then come back with a trip report.

I suggest ifyou are serious you click the "things to do" on the left side of the page on both this forum and the Boston forum, pick some things that interest you and then ask more detailed questions.

A travel writer! I will take that as a compliment :)

I am actually a teacher and my husband is in pharma sales. We went to a fundraiser for the Knots of Hope Transplant Foundation where there was a silent auction going for 1 night in Boston with a few other goodies in the package... which we 'won' so that is how we ended up with this trip to Boston.

:)

We arrive at 10am Friday

leave 3pm Sunday

There are certain things which everyone should cover. The freedom trail, the North End, Newbury Street.

The walk behind the Boston Harbor hotel and over to the seaport area is nice as well. In the North End, cover Hanover and salem streets, end to end.

Charles Street, Mt. Vernon, Pickeny are parts of Beacon Hill which should be seen

If you have time, a walk along the Charles River.

Pick a hotel which blends with Boston. The Omni Parker, Park Plaza, The Taj or Copley Plaza are some.

Coming the week after July 4th

We also have a gift certificate for the Duck Tours.. I teach history and I know Boston has lots of historical places to visit, so that's something we would be interested in.

We don't want to have a marathon sprint to see everything in Boston, so maybe some of the major spots would be cool to hear about.

Thanks in advance...

Ok, besides the Freedom Trail, there are several heritage walks you might be interested in. One is the Black Freedom Trail bostonbyfoot.org/docs/maps/freedom_trail.pdf

The other is the Boston Women's Heritage Trail, which is actually 7 self-guided walks. I love the Back Bay East/Beacon Hill walk.

http://bwht.org/tours (free)

Both of these will bring you into the back of Beacon Hill which has wonderful historic homes and into The State House which also has some grand architecture & exhibits.

I would also suggest a visit to Copley Square & a tour of the McKim Building of the Boston Public Library (free)

Stop in for lunch:

While in Copley Square, you can also visit Trinity Church

http://www.trinitychurchboston.org/

Stop at the Farmers Market for some fruit & flowers to bring back to your hotel.

Other ideas: a tour of historic Fenway Park

The new American wing at the Museum of Fine Arts

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum

Do you have hotel accommodation already? Just curious where you will be based. Kendrick has given you some wonderful ideas.

Your time is uber short so you'll only be able to cover so much ground. I think I would set out Friday morning and start doing the Freedom Trail. There are many sites along the way that are so interesting. I would do some homework before arriving to pick and choose where to spend the majority of time. If it were me, I'd do the State House Tour, walk through Granary Burying Ground, go in to the Old State House, head to Faneuil Hall for the ranger talk, rest and have late lunch in Quincy Market, then continue on to North End and Old North Church. Grab some dessert at Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry. Then, I'd call it a day. The Red Sox are in town if you are interested in seeing a game. Or you could eat at any of our fine restaurants capping the day with a drink at the Top of the Hub.

Saturday - I'd make a reservation for one of the first Duck Tours to get a further overview of the city ( this is a light version of historical highlights). If you are departing from the Prudential location you can then spend some time in the Copley Square area. The tour at Trinity Church is wonderful - http://www.trinitychurchboston.org/, walking inside the Boston Public Library is a good idea as well http://www.bpl.org/central/tours.htm. I would also stroll down Newbury Street and pop in to any stores of interest, go through the Public Garden and Boston Common then head to Beacon Hill area. Here's a suggested walk I followed: www.beaconhillonline.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi… At this point, time for rest, dinner, and perhaps a show, ballgame, or concert.

Sunday -- I really love the Museum of Fine Arts which recently opened a wonderful new wing. MOFA opens at 10 on Sundays so you could spend a few hours there, catch lunch somewhere and home you go.

So, there's one possible itinerary for you. Wish you were here longer. Also, you may want to take some time to read some of the trip reports we have posted on the right. No matter what you end up doing, I hope you have a wonderful visit!

Wow.

You guys rock. I definitely have enough here to prepare for our trip. We are staying in the theater district which I think is a good location to branch out from.

thank you so much!
