need help planning

Family of 5- 2boys 19,17 and 1girl 15yo.

We are flying to boston on Wed June 6th- Sunday 10th.

Have red sox tickets for Thursday. Kids not into much history so I thought Wed and Thursday the Fredom trail and game. Would like to rent car and stay somewhere else. What other options are there? Never been to the east coast. My kids like adventure. What about Salem?

Lots of other options - how far do you want to drive? Salem has a lot of history, including some touristy stuff about the witches but if your kids aren't into history that may not be the best option. What do you mean by adventure? There's kayaking, ziplining, whitewater rafting in the Berkshires (western mass)

You could also head up to the White Mountains & go hiking.

Boston is a beautiful, fun, active city, teaming with college-age kids. I think you may enjoy spending more than 2 days there.

Consider going on a Whale Watch out of Boston. Spend some time in Harvard Square as well.

Note that if you want to see Salem, you can take a day trip from Boston using the commuter rail. No need to rent a car or actually stay overnight in Salem.

Thanks for the ideas. Now where or what town would make sense to stay in.

Wed/Thursday in Boston...Friday at Zoar for activities, Saturday at Salem..

Will have a rental car?? would like to stay outside...of Boston and drive to T station while in Boston. Drive to Zoar... and drive to Salem... Possibly stay at Airport on Sat.. for early flight home Sunday morning.

For hotel suggestions we'll need to understand more about the type of accommodations you need. Are you hoping to all stay in one suite or room? Would two double or queen beds and a sofa bed work for you? Or are you thinking of two rooms? For everyone in one room, the options are more limited.

There are a number of hotels in Woburn that will take 3 adults + 2 kids in a suite. Expedia will show them. Since you'll be visiting Boston on weekdays, parking at many of the T stations will fill up early. www.mbta.com has info about parking facilities at stations and estimations of availability on a typical weekday. Just plan to get an early start (and you'll have commuter traffic)

For something closer to Boston, Hyatt Place Medford/Boston would be a good choice. They have a shuttle to Davis Square (where there is a T stop) and it's walking distance to Medford Square. $200 includes breakfast and free parking. 2 double beds and a sofa bed.

The more convenient you are to Boston, the less convenient you will be to road trips. But dealing with a longer drive for road trips is easier than dealing with a more complicated commute into Boston on a week day. I'd go with Medford.

Since you'll be going to Boston on a weekday, parking at many T stations fills up early. www.mbta.com has parking info and estimations about weekday availability. You may need to get an early start. Or you could just drive into Boston and pay to park there.

Consider Arlington/Lexington/Waltham for good access to the Alewife T station for Boston and to highways for your excursions.

You do realize that "Zoar" is not a 'place', but a company that organizes outdoor ativities in far Western Mass. The drive from Boston to Florida (the Massachusetts town named florida, not the state) the town where their "Zoar Gap" White Water Rafting trip starts could be over 3 hours one way. Mass, isn't like Texas, we don't have lots of long straight highways with high speed limits ....

Zoar, the company, has options in different parts of the state, it depends on what you are interested in. Zip-lining is in Charlemont, approx. 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Spring whitewater rafting takes place in several locations in Mass. including the Concord River in Lowell, less than 1 hour from Boston.

What about a whale watching tour? Cliff Walk at Newport RI? Battleship Massachusetts in Fall River? Lowell Industrial Revolution National Park? How about Quabbin for a day in the wilds of Mass?

As to a Hotel try the Hotel Indigo in Newton at Riverside. Direct shot via subway Green Line D branch to Fenway; easy access to interstate for travel outside Boston and easy access to I 90 to get to Logan
