Break between New York city and Boston?

We will be in the states on a 10-day trip in june. We start in New York and stay there for 5 days and finish with 3 days in Boston - but where should we stay for a couple of days between these cities?

It should be a couple og relaxing and luxurious days.

Any good suggestions as to where to stay and what to see?

You are welcome to mail suggestions to us at

Kind regards TorbenFromDenmark.

Why not try a couple of quieter days maybe in New Hampshire, the southwest corner of the state is very picturesque and could be a nice change from the cities. Lots of great B and Bs, nice restaurants, hiking (easy to tougher). It's also just a couple of hours to Boston and 3-4 hours from NY City. I can be more specific if this interests you.

Good morning Torben from Denmark!

One place that you might want to consider is Foxwoods Casino & Resort in Ledyard, Connecticut. The directions from NYC are here, I've included them for you. It would be on your way from New York City if you drive straight I-95 all the way, it wouldn't be a bad drive at all and then to drive to Boston it's only about 2 more hours away and that's it. This resort is the biggest one on the East Coast. It's usually pretty reasonable to stay there for a night or two. They have two Hotels on the complex, one of them is the Grand Pequot Tower, that's where we stay all the time and the other one is the Great Cedar Hotel. There's also an Inn on their complex, but it's not as convenient as staying at one of these two hotels. You just have to take the elevator downstairs to the complex, where the Inn you'd have to take a shuttle bus up to the main complex and it's not as convenient, nice Inn though, but for convenience sake, it's easier to stay at one of their Hotels right on the complex.

We drive down a couple of times a year. They have an Indian Museum that's quite interesting on their grounds and all kinds of shows at night for entertainment all the time. From this resort you could drive to Mystic, Connecticut within 30 minutes if that, as it's very close to the Foxwoods Resort:

Foxwoods Resort Casino

39 Norwich-Westerly Road

Ledyard, CT 06339

From New York City

Directions: Take I-95 North to Exit 92 in Connecticut. Turn left onto Route 2 West. Foxwoods is eight miles west on Route 2. Drive time: 2 hours 30 minutes.

If you didn't want to stay or see this Resort, within 20 minutes or so is Mystic, Connecticut, which has quite a lot of attractions to see:

Here's a good site to read about the Mystic Seaport Museum information:

www.mysticseaport.org

Here's info on Olde Mystic Village, where there's all kinds of shops and neat restaurants:

If you wanted to stay right in Mystic instead of at Foxwoods, there is a Bed & Breakfast Inn in Mystic, CT. called The Morgan Inn where you could stay, if you didn't want to stay at the Foxwoods Resort:

www.themorganinn.com

There's also quite a lot of motels & Inns to stay at right in and near Mystic Village besides the Morgan Inn. In fact here's a list of them if you didn't want to stay at any of the above mentioned places:

www.mystic.org/wheretostay/hotels.php

Have a wonderful trip and I know you're going to really enjoy New York City as well as Boston a lot. It will certainly be an added bonus for you if you can get to Foxwoods Resort and/or Mystic, Connecticut.

Good luck and have a wonderful time.

Just so you're aware, the drive from New York City to Boston is about 4 hours, so it's not necessary to stay in between. However, if you do wish some luxury and something different for you, try the Berkshire Mountains in Western Massachusetts. There are still several nice towns there with various museums and Tanglewood Concerts, and many nice hotels/inns/resorts to choose from.
