Nice & Modern Hotel in South Eastern Michigan

Our anniversary is in a few weeks, and since we have other trips planned this year I just wanted to do a local weekend getaway for it.

Can anyone suggest any Nice (think $$) modern hotels in the area of Novi, Birmingham, Troy, etc. We aren't highly interested in going Downtown Detroit but I could be swayed. I'd prefer one that has a nice restaurant inside of it for our anniversary dinner. Casino Windsor is a backup option.

I'm seeking a city/area where there might be something to do or a downtown to walk around, but it's not really required.

Any suggestions? I've received a few from friends but figured the TripAdvisor people might know the best ones :)

Anyone? Any ideas? I think I might just go to Frankenmuth even though it's a little further than I wanted.

Unless you have ideas :)

Check out the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. They are offering 2 special packages valid thru May 31, 2010. Bon Appetit includes dinner and Blush of Love includes breakfast with your stay. There are probably some date restrictions, but worth checking out. The downtown area is very nice.I do not see Frankenmuth as an anniversary destination...just my opinion.Hope this helps and enjoy a wonderful Anniversary wherever you stay!

Oh the Spartan in me hates to admit it but I think Ann Arbor would be a very nice choice. The town is so wonderful with upscale shops and restaurants on Main Street and quirky restaurants and shops on Liberty nearer campus. Take a look at the Bell Tower Inn. It is right downtown and is within walking distance of everything. It does not appear to modern in the sense of modern decor but it does appear to be comfortable and updated.

Yes, I think Ann Arbor could be a very nice choice....she says with chagrin! Moms

The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. Nice downtown for sure. Seemed like a very nice hotel when we visited the area one day.

Thanks everyone! Actually I agree that Frankenmuth didnt sound very romantic but my friend mentioned it and suddenly I wanted to go! But now I think I'm going to save Frankemuth for Sept/Oct when we can really get into the Christmas spirit :-D

I have seen the Royal Park Hotel online as well as the Townsend when my coworker recommended. I've never really been to either city so I think I'll look into those options more.

moms, booo Spartans! Just kidding :) I did consider Ann Arbor but I don't think it sounded very romantic, I don't know why. We usually go there for comedy shows and Pizza at Cottage inn.

Also, I just volunteered to host Mother's day at my house (which is the same weekend I'm talking about) so I'm considering just doing a reallllly local hotel, like in Livonia or The Ritz in Dearborn - just going there for the night and a nice dinner.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm going to try to decide tonight!
