Best places to eat in the U.P.

OK folks, I need opinions on your favorite places to eat in the U.P.

2 trips in the future planned, probably no further west than Marquette down to Escanaba. Thanks.

Are you driving through St. Ignace? If so, stop into Clyde's just West of the bridge on US 2. It's a really cool drive-in style restaurant with GREAT burgers...try the Big "C". Also, if you're in Escanaba and looking for dinner, try Hereford and Hopps...really good home brewed beer and probably the best steaks in the U.P.

Brownstone Inn about 8 miles past Munising on the way to Marquette. Great homemade soups and sandwiches and dozens upon dozens of beers from which to choose. It's always a must stop on our way to the Keweenaw. All by its lonesome self not to far from a lovely waterfront B & B that I can't remember the name of, maybe Pinewood.

There are additional Clyde's in Sault Ste Marie and Manistique. The one on the Sault is right on the River and you can watch the freighters and the Suger Isalnd Ferry. Clyde's does a good perch sandwich.

In Escanaba try the Stone House Restaurant.

In Saint Ignace try Little Bob's. These are the same folks that had the Little Bob's on Mackinac Island years ago.

Having moved up to the U.P. from Chicago, it was a challenge to find some fine dining establishments that served more than steaks and spaghetti. We live near Iron Mountain now and these are some of our favorites: In Escanaba/Gladstone area it's The Log Cabin Grill - great menu, notable chef, wonderful food and service with nice lake view. We've also enjoyed great meals at the Stone House. In Marquette we enjoy Upfront near the lake.

Moved to the UP 30 years ago (Escanaba area) and our favorite place for breakfast is the Delona on US 2 & 41 between Escanaba and Gladstone and for lunch or dinner we like the Buck Inn also on US 2 & 41 on the north end of town by the Escanaba River bridge. Pacino's has a top notch chef but too fine dining for this Yooper. Hereford & Hops is a microbrewery with good steaks you can grill yourself, The Saloon in Gladstone gets our business for best pizza. Enjoy!
