To rent a car or not

We are definitely renting for at least two days for our Grand Canyon trip ($60). We want to do two days of exploring and hiking adding two mire rental days ($120). The question is whether to rent from Monday night to Saturday evening when our flight leaves (total would be $210 for almost nine full days). Would we spend more than $90 in cabs, airport shuttle and buses for 5 days for two people ?

I think you would Depend on where you are staying at. And if you want to venture off the strip. A car would give you much more freedom to do other things. Renting a car would be more of a convenience.

I always recommend renting a car. It is very easy to have a car in Vegas, the road system is easy to figure out and it's about the easiest place on earth to park. There are many worthwhile places that you need a car to explore. And you can often rent a car for the day for the price of one or two cab rides. A cab ride one way from the strip to downtown is $20 or $30.

Also, you may be able to do better than $210. Check kayak.com, hotwire.com, and carrentals.com, and keep checking.

Incidentally, one of my favorite cheap dining options is Steak, Seafood, and Wine night at the Silverton, if you're there late enough on Saturday. Crab legs, shimp, prime rib, sushi and lots of other good stuff, wine included. $21 per person, it's a steal with a 2-for-1 from the American Casino Guide. And it's a nice casino to check out too.
