4 day foliage trip from october 21st?

Hi everybody,

We want to come to New England on Oct 21st to travel the country side and see the foliage. We land in Boston and have 4 days.

We are from L.A. and have no idea where to go and how to plan. I know it is maybe a little late for foliage but this is the best we can do.

Do you have any suggestions for a driving around trip coming out of Boston, where we would see as much of New-England’s nature and wildlife, maybe camp out 1-2 nights (Is it too cold for that?) and then come back to Boston. We don’t want to do too much driving because we only have a few days. The best thing is to go to one amazing spot and walk/bike around for 2 days.

Will it be a good idea renting a camper or sleeping in B&B? We do have a tight budget...

We will have 1 car with us but we will be 6 people so we will need another one.

I hope I gave you enough details to work with…. Thank you all so much!

Hello and welcome to New Hampshire. Your timing for foliage is not the best, peak is usually mid month in the southern parts of the state. But, with a little planning you can still see some great colors. It does seem like the colors are slower this year so it might be worth your while to stay in south west NH as it is close to the Mass border. That way you could easily to a day trip either north or south or even a little farther west to southern Vermont. You could also consider a stay in the Berkshires or mid Mass. to see good color. There are lots of nice hiking/walking trails in all of these areas, b and bs and restaurants and the area should be a little quieter that late in the month.
