Thanks to all the great advice here on TripAdvisor, I am firming up our plans for our fall trip. My proposed schedule so far is to spend the first 2 nights in Woodstock, Vt, then 2 nights in the Stowe area, then on to NH for 2 nights in Franconia. I am making choices based on lodging prices, as we want to focus our $ on experiences rather than expensive places to sleep. I found the Gale River Motel here and in other sites as seeming to be a good value for what we want, and so am thinking of staying there. If so, are 2 nights enough to do the following: take the Cog up the mt, short hike in Flume Gorge, drive the Kanc, see covered bridges, and any other scenic/historical things to do in this area? Or should I add a night----we will drive from here to Bar Harbor, so I know that we won't have much time on the day we check out.
