I have never been to either Santa's Village or Storyland and will be taking my 5 year old in August. Can anyone tell me approximately how long it takes to go through both attractions? Should I plan a day for each? or would a few hours be sufficient" Also, what are some other attractions in that area that would be a "must see" on your list?

Both attractions can fill an entire day, especially with a little one. Storyland in particular has lots of activities, not just rides. It is designed with little ones in mind. I found that it was easier to just take your time and and not try to cram too much into one day when our son was young. Suggest checking the websites for both places and see what would interest your 5 yr old and plan accordingly.

For a 5 yr old, there is always a good motel with a quiet pool and a little playground. I always liked the Willey Slide park out in Crawford Notch for a stop. There is a pond with ducks for the kids to feed, picnic tables and places to walk.

In North Conway, there is a Friendly's restaurant for an ice cream stop too.

Here are some other attractions.

You don't say how much time you will be in the area.

Maybe a moose tour or train ride would be fun.

Would especially suggest Diana's bath or Jackson Falls for swimming.

Santa's Village and Storyland are farther apart then it may look on the map so doing both of these in one day is NOT advisable. I did a half day at Storyland with a 2 year old (who was less tha 48 inches) and still did not get through it all and Santa's Village is about the same. There is a lot to do in this general area so I would plan on a day for each and then if you really don't absorb a great deal of time there is plenty of stuff to fill in the gaps. The North Conway Scenic rail has nice rides but they are about an hour or so long so it depends on how long your child can keep the interest level up, they also have a great model train exhibit. A great deal of the hotels have water slides, playgrounds and all sorts of activities--even some of the more budget ones so you might not need as much high speed planning as you think. The Glen Junction Restaurant I think is only open for breakfast into late morning but is a very child friendly restaurant in Bartlett near Storyland. Suprisingly the food at the parks isn't that bad or too terrible overpriced (though more pricey than a standard restaurant).

The food at Storyland and Santa's is decent and not overpriced - especially the ice cream.

Three breakfast places worth the drive are:

Priscilla's - N Conway

Peaches - N Conway

Yesterday's - Jackson

We recently took our 2 year old grandaughter to Storyland. She loved it, but it took the whole day. Last year I took my 3 year old nephew to Santa's Village. He loved that, but it also was a whole day's excursion. When we went to Santa's Village we stayed at the Jefferson Notch Motel and Cabins. We have stayed there several times and like it a lot. They have a nice pool, and the accomodations are very comfortable. Another fun thing to do with a 5 year old is the gondola ride up Wildcat Mt.
