New York-New England trip

We are a retired couple kayaking at Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks in late August and then driving with kayak and bikes through Vermont and New Hampshire to Orrs Island (Brunswick area),Me for Labor Day weekend. Have accommodations at Raquette and Orrs Island. What is most scenic driving route that includes some interesting shorter hikes, bike routes, and/or possible kayak paddles? We have 2 1/2 days to get from Raquette to Orrs Island. Any cool places to sleep or eat? Thanks

sounds like a great trip. I would love to route you through the White Mountains, (my Home) But I would say Head to Lake George, Then power straight through to the old port in Portland and explore Casco bay and the islands, great restaurants and light houses in Portland harbor. then cruise slowly to Orrs Island.
