fall Festivals around New Hampshire/Massachusetts area

We will be traveling by car from NYC to area of White Mountains and stay in the area (6-11 october) and we were wondering if anyone can suggest fall festivals/ activities.

We are from Europe and want to experience local festives and enjoy the fall.

Also any suggestions where to stop on our way from NYC to white mountains.

Link to website of villages/towns that you think is worth stopping by are welcome.

we are traveling without kids, so no need to suggeted activities for children :-)

thanks!

If you're going to be in the North Conway, NH area on 6 October I suggest the Fryeburg Fair which is in Fryeburg, ME. Without traffic it's a 15 minute ride from North Conway however the last day of the fair is October 6 and with the foliage season expect very heavy traffic.

The Topsfield Fair, near Route I-95 in the northeast area of Massachusetts, takes place this year from October 4 through 14.

are you spending the time in the WM or taking a couple of days to make the trip?

It is a long day so don't expect you want much of a detour if you are ending up in the WM. It would be a shame to drive across the Kanc at night. If you go to the official state visitor websites like visitnh.gov, just about all the fairs and festivals will be listed by dates.

Activities - are you looking for something besides hiking, going up MW if weather is good, Cannon tram, flume gorge, maybe a scenic train ride....?

Depending on where in NYC you are starting out, the drive to the White Mountains should be about 5 to 6 hours. A bit of extra time for food and bathroom stops. It is not essential to stop overnight. But if you want to, do you have something you want to stop for, or are you just looking for a comfortable bed and a decent meal?

I am going to be in the area that wk and have been looking for festivals as well. Prefer crafts type over the food and games/rides type and haven't really seen much on the visit nh or Mt wash chamber of commerce. Haven't found a good apple festival either. If anyone has suggestions or can point us on the right direction, it is appreciated.
