Where to stay between Montreal and Boston?

Hi - I wonder if anyone could make some suggestions based on the above question? We will be leaving Montreal on September 4th and possibly travelling by train so maybe somewhere on that rail route? It will be a one or two night stop and we have previously stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel in the White Mountains so have explored that particular area. Any suggestions welcomed thank you!

Apparently you can't go directly between these cities but have to switch in NYC. That could be a good place to stop.BVT is also. Albany would work if you are renting a car (so VT, saratoga springs, Lake George, Berkshires) are among the easily accessible areas

A quick search suggest considering taking the bus as quickest, most economical. I'll let you figure that out.

Since you have been here before, you know that our public transport does not begin to compare with that available to you at home.

newslaw is right about direct train access to Montreal and New York. Another option is taking a bus to Burlington, VT staying a night there and then picking up the train the next town over in Essex and taking that down to New Haven. That will give you the option of staying a night in New Haven. New Haven does have a bad reputation for crime, but in the center where most people eat, stay its fine. From New Haven you can get on another rail line that takes you up to Boston.

So really its either go to NYC or Burlington/New Haven.

If taking the train, you might consider a stop in Brattleboro, VT, a nice little downtown area.
