A guy fro the UK who wants to take some photos around NJ

My wife and i will be staying in Newark NJ for a couple of weeks late August and being a avid photographer i'm looking for places to visit. I'm not planning on hiring a car so we are going to have to rely on public transport.

Naturally I'll be taking photos in and around NY but i would also like to find some places of interest less visited by Jo tourist.

So far i have

Barnegat Lighthouse

Tinton Falls

Great Falls on Passaic River

Some of my photos - http://www.flickr.com/photos/degudodger/

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. :)

The old ferry terminal in west depford has some good shots of Philly. Also the cornfeild battleship in Moorestown.

The shore towns of Asbury Park, Ocean Grove and Spring Lake will give you lots of interesting sites to photo. All reachable by NJ Transit.

What did you have in mind for Tinton Falls?

I think the majority of published photographs taken of the Manhattan skyline were taken from Hamilton Park in Weehawken. That’s just above the Lincoln Tunnel entrance.

Another good choice might be Liberty Park in Jersey City. At the famous restored railroad station there, you can get on a boat for Ellis Island & Statue of Liberty, with some great water views of NY/NJ harbor.

If you take the light rail to Bayonne, you can visit one of the best-kept secrets of New Jersey, the Tear of Grief memorial. But you will need a taxi from the train station or be a good walker.

Thanks for the link to your pictures. Here’s a link to a few more attractions that may interest you:

If you drive to Island Beach State Park and drive all the way to the end of the road, you will be about 2 miles form the southern end of the island. There is a big jetty there made form giant stones. You can walk out to the end and take photos of the fishermen who seem always to be there, but if you walk around to the right from the base of the jetty there are great views of the lighthouse from across the inlet. And walking a little farther takes you along a small beach with great views for photos.

PJK,

Thanks for that. How far is it off the public transport route?

If you might like photographing at lighthouses, you can easily get public transportation to the 3rd tallest in the USA in Atlantic City.

IMHO most of the recommended places will be very hard to reach without renting a car.

What were you hoping to photograph in Tinton Falls?
