april in new jersey??

We are spending 10 days in April and would like to find something in New Jersey for part of that time. Is April on Jersey shore viable? Too cold for Cape May? Best amusement park and are they open in April? Inland activities if the beach is too cold? Thanks for info. I heard the Jersey shore rocks!

I don't think you should count on being on the beach for long in April. You might get a warm day or two. If adults only, you might enjoy the more peaceful atmosphere at this time of year. However, if you have children or teens, I don't think the amusement parks are open yet and since you can't swim in the ocean without a wet suit, I think you should make other plans. As far as inland New Jersey, there aren't many things outside of some museums and historical sites. (Yes, I know there are some beautiful areas like Washington's Crossing and Princeton etc.)

Have you considered Philadelphia? You have all the historical sites plus wonderful museums for both adults and children. You have the Redding Market with its many food opportunites. There are also the sports venues. Winterthur and Longwood Gardens are nearby and spring flowers may be blooming if you visit in the later part of April. Everything depends upons your interests. The Jersey shore does have the casinos and shows, if you enjoy that type of entertainment. You must be 21 to get into a casino. I would look at a good guide book of the area that includes southern NJ and the Philadelphia, Lancaster (Amish country) area and make your choices from that.

I agree with JeanneFromCT. April is usually very cool. It is more likely to snow than to have an 80 degree day. The beach would be nice to look at, but you won't be able to spend any time sitting on it. People seem to think that because there is a beach, it must be warm. Not the case at all. You would do better visiting a city, be it NYC, Philadelphia, or DC.

Couldn't help but notice that two non-New Jerseyites recommend going some place other than New Jersey.

Please take a good look at the websites already posted. There are a lot of fun and interesting things to do in our state. We are much more than the beach.

And as already noted, it will be too cold to spend time on a beach, you should visit one with a boardwalk, such as Spring Lake, and take a walk. It is wonderful.

And Six Flags Great Adventure will reopen in April.

The ocean will be cold, so dont even think about going in. The ocean does not really even get warm enough until the middle of July.

I've gone to the beach in April but that month can be either still very chilly or just getting warm. I like to walk on Island Beach State Park from the last parking area to the end where the fishing jetty is located and where you can see the lighthouse across the inlet. And, yes, it would be much too cold to go into the water.

Afterwards you can walk on the boardwalk at Seaside Heights. Not everything will be open but many of the restaurants will be and you could have clams and pizza and beer.

For the record I was born and raised in southern NJ so I do know about the shore.

JeanneFromCt,

You may know somethings about the southern shore of New Jersey, but obviously don't know anything about the rest of the state or you would not have made such an uninformed comment
