Best Roads in the winter?

What is the best route from Carlsbad, NM to Boulder, Co this week? We have young kids and want the shortest route that is still safe in winter driving. Thank you!

This week there shouldn't be a problem with the "lesser" roads in Southern New Mexico, but we enourage you to get over to Interstate 25 and take that north. The current winter storm flying through the state should be gone by tomorrow and roads will be clear by then.

US 285 all the way from Calsbad to I-25 south of Santa Fe, then I-25 all the way to Denver. Shouldn't have any problems. Looks like the storm that hit the eastern side of the mountains, has blown on in to Texas.

Thank you! We'll go 285 to Santa Fe and then 25. That's just what we needed to know having never been on roads north of Roswell.
