Hotel management replies to reviews

I think the opportunity for hotel management to respond to reasonable reviews is an important form of fairness on here, but what if there are false statements in the reply? Why cannot I respond back in the thread and respectfully point put that I did point out a problem during my stay at the hotel and it was not fixed as the management claims? Bottom line, the management should not be given the last word in a public forum - it tips the scales in their favor and skews the accuracy of what we look for in reviews.
