Looking for beach/location suggestions...

We are considering a trip to NC in April. We aren't looking for super warm weather, and the weather there that time of year will seem warm to us anyway (we're from MI). We will be traveling with our 6-month-old. We would like to stay in an oceanfront house, near 'things to do'--not necessarily restaurants, as we plan to do most of our eating in, but probably near things like shopping, maybe an aquarium, or other stroller-friendly places. What are your suggestions? We've considered Nags Head, Kure, and Bald Head Island...but BHI looks like it might be a pain w/ the baby.

Sounds like your on the right track. I don't know what your definition of "shopping" is, but I think the Wilmington area would offer more in that department. There are plenty of places to spend money at Nags Head, but naturally since Wilmington is a larger city there will be more shops there. The riverfront area is really nice, the NC Aquarium is nearby, and there are plenty of good places to wander around with a stroller. Nags Head is a great destination too. I'm sure you'll have a great trip no matter which destination you choose.

Oh, and the weather in April is usually very nice, with average highs in the 70's for most of the state. You could easily see 80 degrees or more at the coast.

Let us know what you decide to do!

I suggest you look into Atlantic Beach/ Pine Knoll Shores near Morehead City. They have a great aquarium, plenty of beach and sound front cottages, nice, family-oriented beaches and plenty to see and do. You might try Al Williams Realty or Beacon'Reach for rental options. If you do go, be sure to visit Beaufort, a short drive away.

Kure/Carolina Beach area is great. Very close to Aquarium, Ft. Fisher Ferry, Ft. Fisher battleground and museum, lots of neat shops in downtown Carolina Beach. Wilmington is just a short 20 minutes away...with lots of shops and resturants along the way.

(Ocean Dunes is a nice condo complex in Kure Beach)

BHI...yes, might be a bit much with baby. Very expensive, no cars allowed, no real "grocery" stores...they do have markets and some shopping there though. Lovely place...best to go just as a couple or when baby is bigger.

It's hard to beat the variety of great places you can easily visit from Nags Head. The NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island, The Elizabethan Gardens, Fort Raleigh (1st English settlement), 4 lighthouses (if you make a day trip to Ocracoke).

The Wright Brothers Monument and Jockey's Ridge are both exciting to see.

I'd say might look for an oceanfront condominium, like Heron Cove, and it's still a little large (3BR).

There are some new oceanfront condominium homes with an indoor pool, outstanding finishes and amenities, but it may not be all the way finished for April, Croatan Surf Club.

The Villas on the Roanoke Sound might have a 2 bedroom as well. Good luck.
