points of interest in North Carolina

thinking of going to North Carolina the end of October. I am just wondering if anyone knows of any points of interest. we will be staying In Kitty Hawk. we dont want to drive far maybe a hour - hour and a half tops

In that case you need to concentrate on the Outer Banks and northeast NC. What are you interested in?

Unless you count the place where the first airplane flew or the pirate stuff around Jockey's Ridge. Or the Hatteras Lighthouse. Or Ocracoke Island. Or those wild horses.

Also, deep-sea fishing for marlin and sailfish out of Oregon Inlet, The Lost Colony (Sir Walter Raleigh), historic towns such as Manteo, Elizabeth City, Hertford, and Edenton; fresh seafood right off the boat from the Atlantic Ocean...but not many cheeseheads!
