Small North Carolina Beach Town

I'm looking for a small NC beach town that has great restaurants and bars. Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you want to stay along the ocean? Are you heading down during the summer or off-season?

Yes, along the beach and during the next couple of months.

Carolina/Kure Beach area. Or Southport.

Southport isn't a beach town but it's near Oak Island. Southport is at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. We do have several nice restaurants. We have no beach. We go to Oak Island or other barrier islands for the ocean experience.

Yes....I knew that Southport isn't a "beach" town. But they have plenty of bars and resturants that the OP was asking about. It is waterfront, so lots of places to go to with a great water view. And yes....neighboring Oak Island for the ocean experience.

Carolina/Kure Beach or Atlantic Beach would fit the bill. Off the beach but near it - Southport or Beaufort.

Beaufort, NC is wonderful. Close to beaches , local places to eat, shopping. You can cross the bridge staright into Morehead City for more places to eat and both have some friendly bars. RAPS is local favorite and so is Beach Bums both in Morehead City,

Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach or Topsail.

Wrightsville Beach is a family friendly beach town with lots of locals, college students and upscale neighborhoods and restaurants.

Carolina Beach - touristy, lots of local restaurants, you can also drive out on the North End of Carolina beach if you have a vehicle with 4 wheel drive

Topsail - quaint, SMALL local beach town with little commercialism.

I'm partial to the Beaufort/Morehead City area myself, but if you really want to go off the beaten path consider Duck on the outer banks.
