Just returned from a week on at the beaches.
Here's some advise if you're looking to dine out :)
We really liked:
Katy's in C.B. for breakfast- quick service, tons of choices and very good! Don't feel snubbed if they tell you too get outside after putting your name in- they make everyone wait on the benches instead of clogging up the entryway. We only waited about 4 minutes. ***
Squiggles in C.B. for ice cream- yummy! ***
The Ocean Grill & Tiki Bar in C.B.- Look for the new bright green building. Inside & outside seating and a fun tiki bar on the pier. There was live music out at the bar the night we went. Great food, very accomodating waiter & not too pricey. We all enjoyed eating out on the pier. ****
17th Street Deli & Restaurant- on the road leading into C.B. (before you cross the bridge) Good sandwiches & terrific value! Lots of fresh fruit on the side too. ****
Two Guys Smoothie Bar on the boardwalk in C.B.- Terrific! Went there three times in the afternoons after the beach. Had the "C.B." smoothie and also the Bananna & Blueberry one. Very yummy!! Def. try this place. ****
Seawitch Cafe in C.B.- not bad, but our waitress was seriously spacey. She kept forgetting things, missed one order entirely, no silverware, etc...might have just been an off night for her?! Much better to skip dinner and just go for drinks at the large outdoor bar and the live music in the courtyard. ***
Domino's Pizza in C.B.- One night it rained so we got dvd's and ordered pizza in. We wanted to try Franks Pizza down on the boardwalk, but they had an 1 1/2 hour backup. Domino's was on time and got it right- but the pizza was just okay for our tastes- a little too doughy.
Don't Bother With:
Tuscan Grill in C.B.- Absolutely Horrible!! Don't try it.
We were so looking forward to trying it- it looked so lovely & they we so nice on the phone. Upon arrivial, the host made an issue about having too many in our party (7 people) & that we would have to be split up- but they sat us when we agreed to sit on the patio.
The waiter missed two people for drink orders (they sure felt overlooked) ,never replenished drinks the entire evening which lasted over two and half hours (and not because we were having such a great time)
No entrees for 1 1/2 hours, and then it was only one persons vegetarian entree- this sat untouched for 10 minutes while we waited for everyone else's dinner...two women only ordered salad & baked potato- no actual entree. Then they brought two more, another 5 minute wait and then the rest were brought out. At this point the vegetarian one had to go back in to be reheated- it was a nightmare and so sad for our last night's special dinner out.
The staff is not attentive- maybe it's better if you are seated inside??
One person went in to get silverware so she could eat before her dinner (that finally arrived) got cold and was promptly sent outside by a woman that seemed to be an owner or manager, to wait until someone would bring her the silverware- then this woman came out to inform our party that she would like to compensate us with free dessert for all the troubles with our evening- but her tone was so rude and she didn't ever apologize or seem gracious at all. We declined & got out of there without the dessert.
Big Daddy's in Kure Beach-
Dark in the backroom where we were seated, odd layout with lampposts in the middle of the walkways. No substituing anything and your order by the number. All of that is fine, but not at those prices in my opinion. Hushpuppies were good though! :)
They do have a salad bar, but most everything on the menu is fried.
Too pricey for the setting & food.
Hope this helps everybody heading down to the beaches!!
