Ok, I know this will sound like too much but this is how we like to travel. Since you know the area better maybe you can help me on a plan.
We will be driving from Wisconsin next summer. Our plan is to hit Glacier National park and then head over to Washington to see Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rainier and whatever else I find when the travel guides arrive. Then we plan to do as much as possible in Oregon before we have to head out.
We know we want to do the coast but here is our problem. We also want to visit things not on the coast (Hells Canyon, Crater Lake, plus whatever else we find, we are currently searching maps and travel guides).
What is our best plan of action going to be? We don't want to miss coastline but we still want to see other parts of the state. We were thinking of heading south of 90 either by Missoula Montana taking Hwy 12 to Hells canyon or heading south out of Clarkston to see Hells Canyon first. Then we could jump on 84 and head back up into Wasington to see things there and then come back down Hwy 101.
If you have a better idea please share it! :)
Then as we head down 101 we would get off and drive to see what we want and then come back to 101 and continue down.
I know it would be easier to do a loop but we want to end up at the Redwoods in California and then head to see the Golden Gate Bridge and then back home on I-80 so we can see the Great Salt Lake.
Does this sound like the best plan given our cirumstances? Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. I know it is early but it will take us months to plan a route and look through travel guides (I should say ME, my husband doesn't like to plan trips but he sure likes the outcome!). Plus come spring time I would like to start booking hotels.
Thanks for any and all advice!
