Portland to San Francisco

After 3 days in Seattle and 3 in Portland we will be driving to San Francisco and on to Carmel. I would appreciate suggestions of where to stop/what to see en route from Portland to SF. We can take 2-4 days to make the journey. We aren't into hiking but like great scenery, lively towns and good food! Any advice would be much appreciated.

Three nights would be an absolute minimum - can you fit that in?

The majority of visitors prefer seeing the coast, including the redwoods in far northwestern Calif.

When are you visiting?
